To get an education in the USA all Indians require the F-1 student visa. This is a cumbersome process and takes effort in terms of the document, interview, and overall preparation. Here is the 08-step process to attain the F-1.
01 – Applying to the Colleges – Receiving I-20
Before the whole process begins the applicant must apply to the institute where he/she wish to study. After the school has accepted your application they will send you an I-20 document that will be required throughout the application process. Ensure that the details on your I-20 are the exact match as on your Passport.
02 – SEVIS Fee Payment
Begin the online visa process by first enrolling in SEVIS and make a payment of $200. This process starts only after you have received the I-20, that is, an offer of enrolment at the college or university in the USA. Take a print of your payment confirmation.
03 – Online DS-160 Application
The third step in this process is to fill the DS-169 online form. This online application will ask for most of your personal information – name, age, place of birth, permanent address, etc. Make sure you have all the information ready beforehand once you decide to submit your DS-160 application. You will be required to upload a photo of yours, without eyeglasses.
04 – DS-160 Application Fee Payment
On completion of DS-160, you will be required to pay the visa application to forward the process. A fee of $160 will be required at this time, over and above the $200 SEVIS fee. This action will process and line up your application for the F-1 study visa for the USA.
05- Het an Interview at the USA Embassy
After completing the DS-160 application process the candidate can then fix an interview appointment date at the USA Embassy. Since the number of applicants for the interview is very high make sure that you have initiated the process well in time. Keep details of your passport, DS-160 application reference number, and the CGI-reference number ready.
06 – Keep the Document Ready
For the Embassy interview, you will require numerous documents that the embassy will check. You will be required to carry your passport, DS-160 confirmation number, receipt of your visa application, the I-20 and also your photograph (as per the guidelines).
Moreover, you will be required to carry your documents regarding financial obligations for study, travel, and housing. Academic documents – mark sheet, transfer certificate, degree, and TOEFL score will also be needed. You will be required to produce the documents that prove you will return to your native country.
07 – The Interview for Visa
Prepare for your interview in the best possible manner. Make sure that all the documents required during the interview process are available with you. The interview tends to be a simple one and the Interviewer would check your application on the criterion set for an F-1 visa.
08 – Preparing for the US Settlement
Your visa application will be approved or rejected at the visa interview venue. If your F-1 is approved then you will receive your passport with Visa within 5-10 days. You are permitted to reach USA 30-days prior to the start of your course.
