Why the UK

Why Indian students choose the UK

Shorter degrees, lower total cost than the US, and a clear post-study work pathway through the Graduate Route. The UK packs a world-class education into a single year — then gives you two years to work.

It's why over 160,000 Indian students are studying in the UK right now.

1-year Master's

Finish in 12 months, not 2 years. Save a full year of tuition and living costs — and start earning sooner.

Graduate Route visa

Work in the UK for 2 years after graduation (3 for PhD) — no job offer or sponsorship needed.

World-class universities

Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, UCL, Edinburgh — consistently global top 30, respected by employers worldwide.

Lower total cost than US

One-year Master's means total cost is often ₹15–25 lakh less than a 2-year US degree.

No GRE/GMAT needed

Most UK Master's don't need GRE/GMAT. A good Bachelor's percentage plus IELTS is usually enough.

Big Indian community

English-speaking, diverse, and a large, established Indian community in every major UK city.

Step by Step

Your UK study visa journey

From first consultation to landing in the UK — here's exactly how the process works with ESM.

1

Profile & shortlist

We assess your academics, budget, and goals, then shortlist 6–8 UK universities and courses that fit — balancing ambition with admit probability.

2

Application & SOP

We help craft your personal statement, gather references, and submit via UCAS (UG) or directly (PG). Most decisions come in 2–6 weeks.

3

Offer & CAS

Once you accept an offer and pay the deposit, the university issues a CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) — the key document for your visa.

4

Financial documents

We prepare your maintenance funds proof (28-day rule), education loan papers, and IHS payment — the most common reason for refusals if done wrong.

5

Visa application

We complete your online Student visa application, book biometrics, and prepare you for any credibility interview. ESM's UK visa success rate is 98%.

6

Pre-departure

Visa approved! We brief you on accommodation, banking, SIM, travel, and connect you with ESM students already in your UK city.

Proof of funds

Tuition + living costs held in your (or sponsor's) account for 28 consecutive days. Loan sanction letters accepted.

IELTS / English test

Approved SELT (IELTS for UKVI) or proof of English proficiency. Some universities accept MOI letters.

TB test certificate

Indian applicants must take a tuberculosis test at an approved clinic — mandatory for UK visas.

Academic transcripts

Degree certificates and mark sheets from 10th, 12th, and your Bachelor's (for PG applicants).

FAQs

UK study visa questions answered

How long does a UK Student visa take to process?
For Indian applicants, standard processing is around 3 weeks after biometrics. A priority service (5 working days) and super-priority (next working day) are available for extra fees. Apply at least 1–2 months before your course start date to be safe.
Can I work while studying in the UK?
Yes. On a Student visa you can work up to 20 hours per week during term time and full-time during holidays. Part-time wages in the UK are typically £8–12/hour, which helps cover living costs. You cannot be self-employed or work as a professional sportsperson.
What is the Graduate Route visa?
The Graduate Route lets you stay in the UK to work (or look for work) for 2 years after completing your degree (3 years after a PhD). You don't need a job offer or employer sponsorship to apply. It's one of the biggest reasons Indian students choose the UK.
How much money do I need to show for a UK visa?
You must show tuition fees for your first year plus living costs: £1,334/month for up to 9 months in London (£12,006) or £1,023/month outside London (£9,207). The funds must sit in your account for 28 consecutive days before applying. Education loan sanction letters are accepted.
Do UK universities require IELTS?
Most do, but requirements vary. Typical Master's entry is IELTS 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0. Some universities accept alternatives like TOEFL, PTE, or a Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter if your Bachelor's was taught in English. We'll tell you exactly what your target universities accept.
Is the UK cheaper than the USA for Indian students?
Usually yes — because a UK Master's is one year vs two in the US. Even if per-year tuition is similar, you pay for half the time and half the living costs. Total spend for a UK Master's is often ₹15–25 lakh less than an equivalent US degree.
What are the UK intakes?
The main intake is September/October, with the widest course choice. A secondary intake in January/February offers selected courses for students who miss the main one. A small May intake exists at some universities. We recommend starting your application 8–12 months before your target intake.
How does ESM help with UK applications?
We handle the full journey: university shortlisting, personal statement, UCAS/direct applications, CAS follow-up, financial documentation, IHS payment, visa application, and pre-departure briefing. Our UK visa success rate is 98%. The first consultation is completely free.
